New Orleans & Houston Weekend Get-Away

Le Pavillion, New Orleans
Le Pavillion, New Orleans

So this week instead of telling you about my many great journeys I have taken, I would take you with me on a journey of how I like to do my travel research when I am not researching vacations for other people. Welcome to my Internet vacation curtesy of GROUPON.

Editorial: Coconut Oil

We will be starting our vacation by first going to New Orleans. For me it’s just a hop skip and a jump of a few hour drive. I visit this city quite often because I love the excitement it offers.
I have booked the hotels through my GROUPON app.

So, back to New Orleans. We will be staying at the four star Le Pavillion Hotel, adjacent to the French quarter and five blocks to Bourbon street. At $89 USD a night, we will stay for two nights so we can enjoy shopping at the French Quarter, drinks on the world famous Burbon street. Of course, while in the French Quarter we will be eating Biegnets at Cafe Du Monde. We really can’t miss this. The French cuisine like gumbo and étouffée and many other different flavors of New Orleans is defiantly a must. People watching is a big thing in New Orleans because so many famous people visit and live in the area. I love the tours like the haunted tours and the historic mansion tours and the tours of the graveyard complete with a live band. We will be able to take advantage of free nightly sandwiches and milk and cocoa every night, in room massages are wonderful . Also the hotel offers a restaurant and lounge. The decor is beautiful with hand carved antiques. It’s a great plus when there is free wifi, which is complimentary. A complimentary overnight shoe shine is just a taste of the Cajun culture. Also, I love the fact that this hotel offers a roof top swimming pool and spa. It’s going to be difficult to leave.

After two nights we will be driving to Houston Texas, which is roughly a four hour straight drive down I-10, another city I love to visit regularly. We will be staying at the four star Omni Houston Hotel because it has easy downtown access. The Omni offers many dining options, posh guest rooms with craft cocktails at the Black Gold Bar and high tea in the lobby every afternoon. We can unwind with a dip in the outdoor whirlpool or the heated swimming pool.

With all the eating we may consider working up a sweat at the 24 hour fitness center, complete with cardio and weight lifting equipment or another option is to have one of the hotels get fit kits delivered to the room. We will be able to head to the onsite cafe on the lake to enjoy wood-grilled salmon in the airy atrium complete with an indoor lake. Afterward, we can enjoy snuggling up in a comfy robe in our deluxe room. Some of the rooms offer views of the lake or a water garden. Just a little something to keep in mind for future visits they are a pet friendly hotel so long as you little one is under 25 pounds at a rate of $50 USD per stay, per pet.

For prices staring at $63 USD I would say, for Houston this is a steal. Personally, I love Houston. I love shopping at the famous Galleria Mall. They have shopping and an indoor ice skating rink complete with skates rentals and even lessons if you can’t skate. There are many restaurants in the mall so we won’t need to venture out. After leaving the Galleria Mall I was thinking of heading 5 miles southwest of the mall to Harwin street. This is a great place to buy knock off designer items at bargain prices. We can even barter for much better prices. This street is a row of stores with stores in the stores. Awesome place to have fun shopping at really cheap prices. But keep in mind no matter what the clerk tells you it is still a knock off.

For more shopping we can take a visit to uptown park. An outdoor mall that brings to mind an Italian Piazza through Romanesque columns, stone fountains, and open-air bistros with strings of twinkling lights. According to a zag at survey, Houstonions dine out more than anyone else in the country, and this mall offers some of the cities best eats, from sushi to Spanish tapas to creamy cupcakes.
We could spend an entire day exploring Houston’s science museums. When Appolo 13 astronaut Jim Lovell famously stated ” Houston, we have a problem.” He was talking to mission control at the Space Center in Houston. Here we can tour the historic mission control room and get a behind the scene look at the astronauts training for the international space center.
Along Houston’s Herman Park, The Health Museum exhibits a large scale human body that you can enter to learn about how your organs operate.

I hope you enjoyed this weeks visit to New Orleans, Louisiana, and Houston, Texas. These are two of my favorite stomping grounds.
If you are interested in visiting but need a fight I have always had great luck with
Stay tuned for more vacation visits with me in the near future.

As always Stay Safe & Have fun…Mom
